Clinical Approach

Initial Consultation
An initial consultation is comprised of a full evaluation and assessment. For child and adolescent clients, this will include a parent/family interview.  I use diagnostic tools in the form of symptom scales and screening questionnaires to assist in obtaining a detailed and thorough assessment of each and every client. In some cases, as in for the younger client, a definitive diagnosis may not be clear, but I will provide you with a working diagnosis and discuss with you my recommendations for treatment. Together, we will work to develop an effective treatment plan that is tailored to each client’s needs.

Medication Management
The use of psychotropic medication may not always be the best course of treatment and I refer to evidence-based practices to determine in which cases medication is indicated. Prior to the initiation of medication, I provide my clients with the risks, benefits, and alternatives to such treatment to allow them to make a fully informed decision. I begin all treatment at low doses and carefully titrate up as necessary. Often times I will use the same diagnostic tools from the initial consultation to evaluate for a reduction in symptoms. I make every effort to prevent polypharmacy (the use of multiple medications) and provide the safest care to my clients.

Psychotherapy
Whether on medication or not, I create a nonjudgmental environment for my clients to speak freely about their stressors and symptoms with the goal of developing and improving coping skills to better manage these stressors. I can provide psychotherapy to my child, adolescent, and adult clients, as well as behavioral management and parent education sessions as needed. My goal is to empower parents to feel better prepared and equipped to manage their child’s psychiatric symptoms and improve their relationship with their child.

Telepsychiatry
I utilize a HIPAA-compliant program to provide treatment to clients outside the office. This can be a time-effective alternative for situations in which clients are unable to be seen in the office due to busy work schedules, travel, or in the case of young adults who are moving away for college. This service has been reserved for clients who have already been seen for an in-person consultation and it will be at my discretion whether telepsychiatry is appropriate for your treatment.
